It has been reported that yellow rust and fungal (septoria) diseases have started to be seen in Çukurova with the beginning of the wheat to begin to spike, and it is estimated that there will be 40-50 percent yield loss in the wheat planted on 3 million decares of land unless precautions are taken.

According to the information obtained by the AA correspondent from the Adana Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Plant Protection Branch Office officials, while the weed spraying was completed in the wheat, which is in the period of shedding, diseases started to appear. Farmers were warned against yellow rust and fungal diseases that emerged with the beginning of the wheat to begin to give ears, and necessary precautions were requested.

Producers, who were asked to keep their fields under control against these diseases that love humid environments, were warned that they should apply to the nearest agricultural organization in case of any signs of disease, otherwise the fight against the disease would become even more difficult.

Pointing out that the wheat will turn yellow early, the market quality of the product will decrease, and this will have an effect on the product prices, the officials said:

“In this critical period, our farmers should check their fields frequently. Currently, the damp weather conditions favored by the disease have occurred. Early diagnosis and timely spraying will significantly affect the progression of the disease.”

It is estimated that there will be a 40-50 percent loss in yield if no measures are taken against diseases in wheat, which is planted on approximately 3 million decares of land this year.

YELLOW RUST AND MUSHROOM

There are three types of rust disease, which is known as the most common and most effective pest of wheat.

“Brown rust”, “Black rust” and “Yellow rust”. Among them, yellow rust is the type that appears the earliest and causes the most yield loss. Although this disease is mostly seen on the leaves, it can also spread to the stems and ears. The disease occurs on the upper surface of the leaves in the form of machine stitches and yellow tassels. Since the arrangement of these tassels resembles a line, this disease is also called "line rust".

Early diagnosis is of great importance as the disease is difficult to combat when it becomes widespread. The first spraying should be done when the first rust tassels start to appear.

It is recommended to use disease-resistant varieties as the most effective way of combating this disease, which can be seen in all wheat growing countries.

Fungal disease, which causes a black soot-like appearance on the wheat straw, causes huge losses in yield, such as yellow rust. Early fight against this rapidly spreading disease is of great importance.
