The US Air Force has developed a new system to carry more intelligent munitions on heavy bomber B-52s. In this context, the traditional rotary launcher was developed in order to increase the ability of heavy bomber shots to reach targets quickly and to carry more ammunition.

Thanks to the traditional rotary launcher, which was first tested in 2017, B-52 bombers will be able to contain smart weapons in their bomb bays, increasing the capacity of their smart weapons by 67%.

Thanks to the new system, B-52s will be able to launch four smart ammunition. B-52s did not have this feature before, as they were not designed to carry modern ammunition. With this new development in aircraft, it will be able to fire all smart ammunition directed to their targets by computers at the same time by providing energy.

The B-52s, the largest bomber in the hands of the US Air Force, are capable of carrying weapons weighing approximately 32 tons, and are also the only US aircraft capable of carrying missiles with nuclear warheads.

The B-52s were designed to carry unguided nuclear bombs or to drop a series of unguided conventional bombs at a target area. The long-range Standoff (LRSO) nuclear missile, which the Pentagon has been developing since 2015, is thought to be the main reason why the Air Force keeps legacy B-52s in service.

The cost of the B-52 fleet is approximately $1.2 billion per year.

The B-52 strategic nuclear bomber was developed by the Boeing company in 1951 and made its maiden flight on April 15, 1952.

The B-52 can carry a total of 45 bombs on the wings and in the fuselage at maximum capacity. With a wingspan of 56 meters, the height of the giant aircraft is 12 meters. The B-52, which can take up to 180 tons of fuel, can reach a maximum speed of about 1000 km and has a range of 15,000 km.

In 2001, when the invasion of Afghanistan began, the USA actively used B-52 heavy bombers in targeting positions belonging to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda and in Tora Bora operations.

Finally, the United States deployed B-52 bombers to Qatar in 2016 to be used in military operations in conflict zones. Since then, B-52s have been used in some operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
