As of 2022, there are 33948 dairy farms in the United States, a decrease of 1813 farms compared to 2021.
People's demand for cow's milk is decreasing and the amount of milk produced is always more than demand is the main reason why many dairy farms have to close.
Currently, there are seven different breeds of dairy cows raised inAmerica. In which Holstein is the most raised dairy breed with about 8.1 million heads, accounting for 89% of the total dairy herd in America. In addition, Jersey is also the second most raised dairy breed in the country with a rate of about 7%.
