Tricks of Operating a Car in the Cold
Even if freezing temperatures are not observed in winter in our country, problems may arise with the operation of cars when temperatures drop below a certain degree. Drivers who have to start their cars more often in the early morning, when the sun is just starting to show its face, may have some problems, such as the engine not working. So what needs to be done to prevent such malfunctions?
Those Who Do Not Want to Have Problems with Starting Vehicles Should Do
Operating vehicles in periods of 10 minutes several times a day in very cold weather,
Covering all or at least the hood of the cars with a blanket,
Cutting contact with cold air by placing an item such as cardboard, newspaper or thermal insulation board in front of the radiator,
It is recommended to add antifreeze to the engine cooling waters and use products with the code “W”, which are specially produced for winter conditions, as engine oil.
In addition, it is absolutely necessary to avoid pouring boiling water on the engines and not resort to methods such as lighting a fire under the vehicle to defrost it.
What to Do to Start Diesel Cars in Cold Weather
The process of starting a diesel car in cold weather has a number of difficulties. Because the principle of operation of diesel cars works differently compared to gasoline cars. That is why it is necessary to follow these steps before starting a diesel car in cold weather:
First, the ignition switch should be turned gradually and the warning lights should be expected to go out. Since the combustion of fuel in diesel vehicles is provided by means of heating plugs, this waiting time is essential.
A spiral spring-like icon located in the warning lights indicates the status of the heating plugs, and the extinction of this light indicates that the heating plugs are ready for use.
After the spark plug light goes out, the ignition switch can be turned and the vehicle can be started. Do not move immediately after starting the car, the engine should be started at idle for 1 to 1.5 minutes to warm up the engine.
Although the diesel car develops some disadvantages against cold weather conditions, the problem can be easily solved by following these simple steps.
What to Do To Start Gasoline Vehicles in Cold Weather
Running a gasoline car in cold weather happens more smoothly than diesel cars. Because in gasoline cars, spark plugs ignite the fuel using a spark system, not using a heating system. Therefore, it is not necessary to wait after starting gasoline vehicles in winter. In other words, a gasoline car in winter does not pose such problems as a diesel car. However, waiting 1 to 2 minutes for the engine to warm up in winter is dec among the factors that extend the engine life.
How to Start a Car with an LPG in Cold Weather?
Vehicles with LPG have an electronic sensor called an NTC sensor. This sensor detects the outdoor temperature and adjusts the amount of fuel to be sprayed with the injector for easy operation of the engine. If this sensor is working properly, there is no problem with the engines of LPG vehicles in winter. In order to avoid problems with starting vehicles with LPG in cold weather, it is recommended that they be put in the petrol position during operation and left in the petrol position while stopping again.
